Winston Brown

Winston Brown began coaching in 1995, with an eager junior girls team at Prince of Wales Secondary.  Finding early success, the former standout athlete became fixated on the Xs and Os of coaching.  While coaching at Kitsilano and Lord Byng, Winston won 7 straight Vancouver City Championships and led those teams to several provincial championships.

In 2002, Winston left Lord Byng to become a part of the coaching staff at York House School.  As head coach of the senior team, he led the Tigers to 8 straight provincial finals (2004 - 20012) bringing home gold 5 times.  In 2003, he founded Triple Threat basketball which, at the time, was the first ‘girls only’ club program in the Lower Mainland. In 2006, he coached the first Zone 5 (Vancouver/North Shore) team to win a BC Summer Games Gold Medal. Beyond high school, Winston spent time coaching at both the CIS (Thompson Rivers University) and CCAA (Langara College) levels.

For the on court accomplishments of his teams, Winston has been honoured with several coaching awards:  Basketball BC Award for Coaching Excellence (2011 and 2006) as well as the Tom Tagami Award for Coaching Excellence (2012) and Telus Provincials Coach of the Tournament (2011).

Katja Fuess

Katja Fuess finished her high school career at Heritage Park where her team won 3 back to back Provincial Championships. Her high school record was 81-3 which includes the games her team played in the United States. She went on to continue playing at Jacksonville State where she was named an All-American. Katja works hard on and off the court, and plays an important coaching role within VK Basketball.

Her coaching experience does not only stem from her impressive basketball career. For 3 years Katja was the assistant coach to Courtney Gerwing at Douglas College. Here, Katja was important member to the women’s basketball team, helping out at practices as well as games. With the experience Katja Fuess has gained over the years she is a valuable asset to VK basketball coaching staff.
